How often should I visit a dentist?

Everyone’s needs are different. How regularly you get a check-up depends on the condition of your mouth, teeth and gums and your lifestyle factors. We generally recommend six-monthly check-ups unless there are high-risk factors.

Why is visiting the dentist so important?

Visiting the dentist regularly helps prevent tooth decay, bad breath and periodontal (gum) diseases that could develop into more serious problems if left unchecked. It also strengthens and cleans your teeth and gives you a more attractive smile.

What are the signs that I have unhealthy teeth?

Some problems with teeth and gums are easily identifiable at home while others are only discovered during a dental check-up. If you experience any of these warning signs, contact Greenland Dental Burpengary to book an appointment:
– Swollen, tender, red or bleeding gums
– Pain while chewing
– Persistent bad breath
– Loose teeth
– Teeth sensitivity.

When should I bring my child for their first dental visit?

We recommend children visit us as soon as their front teeth emerge or before they turn 18 months old.

I’m pregnant. Can I still visit the dentist?

Yes, it’s extremely important to maintain your regular check-ups during pregnancy as hormonal changes cause increased blood flow to the gums which can create inflammation.

I have a dental emergency. Can I be seen straight away?

Our dentist will always try their best to provide same-day treatment in the case of an emergency.

What should I expect at my first dental appointment?

We’ll ask you to fill out a short medical history form. This ensures your treatment best suits you and your health needs. Your dentist will then talk with you about any needs or concerns before examining your teeth, gums and jaw. Depending on your circumstances, we may take X-rays or moulds. Your dentist will explain the results of the assessment and develop a treatment plan for you. A dental hygienist or your dentist will professionally clean your teeth and talk to you about oral hygiene at home.

What should I do if I’m nervous about visiting the dentist?

Treating nervous and anxious patients is one of our specialities. At Greenland Dental Burpengary, we work with you to help you gradually overcome your fear. Our caring staff has years of experience building trust with our clients through open communication and patience. We explain everything step-by-step so there are no surprises.

Do you have ‘happy gas’?

Happy gas or nitrous oxide sedation is available as a treatment option to make your visit to Greenland Dental Burpengary even more comfortable.

Why do I need to have dental X-rays?

X-rays allow us to detect problems in areas not visible to the eye. We use state-of-the-art digital X-rays, which are completely safe and give us instant results.

What are your fees?

At Greenland Dental Burpengary, we recommend dental services based on the needs of each patient. The procedures you need will determine the cost of your treatment. We will explain the fees fully before commencing any treatment.

Do you bulk-bill?

Yes, we offer bulk-billing for children aged 2–17 under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule and for those holding a Department of Veteran Services card.

Do you have HICAPS?

Yes, we do. HICAPS allows us to swipe your health fund card so you receive your entitled rebate on the spot.

How do I take care of my teeth between dental check-ups?

We recommend you brush your teeth twice a day, morning and night, for at least 2 minutes. Use a brush with a small, soft-bristled head and brush in a gentle, circular motion. Replace your brush every three months to keep bacteria from spreading. You should also floss at least once a day, gently moving the floss up and down the sides of each tooth and around the gum line.
